This Supertuscan from Tenuta Casteani takes the nervous personality of Sangiovese and moderates it with the roundness of Merlot. At the nose, plums and dark berries jam, geranium, a balsamic note of bay leaves and pine trees, vanilla, and a peppery note.
At the palate it is complex, smooth, warm and persistent, with a finish both fruity and sapid. The tannins are elegant.
Grapes: Sangiovese, Merlot
Pairing: If you like to have a red wine with a tuna steak, this is the right one. I still prefer it with aged dry cheeses, roasted meats or pizza with sausages and rapini, or more traditionally, tagliatelle with beef ragu.
